Webinar: A Regulatory Agency’s Role in Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning

11th June 2026

About this webinar series
Building on the outcomes of the Workshop on Competency Management of Regulators (COMAREG), the NEA Regulators’ Forum (RF) identified the need for a dedicated platform to consolidate the knowledge and skills required by regulatory agencies to perform their functions. To support this initiative, the RF launches a webinar series designed to foster knowledge exchangecapacity and capability building among regulatory professionals. This initiative seeks to support inter- and intra-generational learning.

The webinar targets primarily junior regulators with beginner to intermediate levels of expertise in radioactive waste management and decommissioning.

Regulatory Skills Hub webinar series
The series will start with an introductory webinar on the overarching functions of a regulatory agency in radioactive waste management and decommissioning. It will explore the regulatory control system governing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle, focusing on how regulatory bodies support safe management solutions, from waste generation to disposal and dismantling of nuclear installations. The webinar will highlight key regulatory principles such as independence, transparency, and adaptability, and illustrate how regulatory frameworks interact with broader environmental, economic, and social objectives to support responsible nuclear back‑end management.
