NAP: Natural Analogues – needs from implementers’ Perspective
The Natural Analogues – needs from implementers’ Perspective (NAP) project is a collaborative project between Waste Management Organisations to exchange information and perform gap anaylsis with regards to the use of natural analogues to support the safety case for geological disposal facilities for radioactive waste.
Overview
Project Dates: 2025 – open ended
Project Status: Ongoing
Website: N/A
Natural analogues (NA) are relevant for many aspects of radioactive waste disposal programmes, crucial to understand long-term processes, and form essential lines of arguments supporting the safety case. The aims of the project “Natural analogues – needs from implementers’ perspective (NAP)” are the exchange, compilation and review of the different implementers’ use of and experiences with natural analogues, the performance of a NA gap analysis reflecting the current advancements in many national waste management programmes and the progress of state-of-the-art science and technology, and eventually to pave the way for future joined R&D activities in the field of NA.
Depending on the outcomes of the workshop, in which the participating WMOs (ANDRA, BGE, COVRA, ENRESA, ONDRAF/NIRAS, PURAM and SKB) exchange on their different approaches in the application of NA and identify needs/suggestions for future NA research, a plan for a gap analysis report from implementers’ perspective will be developed, outlining gaps and further needs regarding NA research.
