IAEA: Technical Meeting on the Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Inventory Tool
21st August 2023 to 24th August 2023
The IAEA is organizing the Technical Meeting on the Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Inventory Tool which will take place virtually from 21-24 August 2023.
For more than a decade IAEA provided the Member States with software designed for tracking and controlling radioactive waste (including disused sealed radioactive sources). This waste inventory software, known as the Radioactive Waste Management Registry (RMWR), allowed the management and recording of reliable information on radioactive waste during its entire life cycle, i.e. from generation to disposal. The RWM Registry was also a managerial tool and offers an immediate overview of the various waste management steps and needs. This facilitates planning, optimizing of resources, monitoring of related data, disseminating of information, taking actions and making decisions. In the upgrade process the tool was connected to Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Information System (SRIS), as in order to facilitate the data collection on the national level, the stand alone software Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Information Tool (SWIFT) was developed. SWIFT, which was launched to help the Member States to collect and report the national inventories, also has a module based on RWMR. This means that SWIFT can be also used for everyday inventory keeping in the different facilities.
The objective of the meeting is to introduce Member States to the IAEA’s new Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Inventory Tool. The aim is to introduce the scope, utility and benefits of the new spent fuel and radioactive waste inventory tool. The user feedback will be also collected.
