The European Commission is pleased to announce and to invite you to the FISA2019 and EURADWASTE’19 Conferences on Euratom Research and Training in Safety of Reactor Systems and Radioactive Waste Management, co-organised with the Ministry of Research and Innovation and the Institute for Nuclear Research from Romania, under the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2019.

FISA 2019 and EURADWASTE ‘19 will engage with all relevant stakeholders: research and training organisations, academia, industry, nuclear safety organisations, technology platforms, European fora and European civil society, and International Organisations to discuss the state of play of R&D, key challenges addressed at national, European and international levels on Research and Innovation policies, synergies and partnerships benefiting research and innovation programmes, and future perspectives.

Invited speakers will present the progress and key achievements of some 90 projects carried out, since the previous conference edition in 2013, as part of the 7th and Horizon 2020 Euratom Research and Training Framework Programmes.

FISA 2019 and EURADWASTE ’19 will also welcome any complementary abstracts, papers and posters related to the sessions and Euratom projects, and Technical Workshops will be set up.

Young generation nuclear scientists are encouraged to participate in the FISA 2019 and EURADWASTE ‘19 Poster and PhD Awards to be handed out at this occasion, as well as in the ENEN PhD Event & Prize organised in a parallel session, to promote and support the work of young researchers in Europe.

Technical visits to the TRIGA research reactor and Hot Cells facilities (at the Institute for Nuclear Research, Pitesti), Nuclear Fuel Plant (Pitesti), ELI – Extreme Light Infrastructure (in Bucharest-Magurele), and Cernavoda NPP and Waste Management facilities (Cernavoda–Constanta) will be organised on June 7th.

FISA 2019 and EURADWASTE’19 Awards

The FISA 2019 and EURADWASTE’19 conferences have launched awards open to the international Research and Training Community in the following poster categories:

  • Euratom Projects’ Awards – for posters dedicated to research performed in the framework of Euratom projects.  About 60 Euratom Projects’ Posters are expected in the conferences out of which 2 will be awarded (one in FISA 2019 and one in EURADWASTE’19).
  • PhD and Master Awards – for posters of PhD and Master students with a thesis related to the topics of the conferences. 15 posters in this category will be selected; the authors will receive funding to participate to the conferences and defend their poster. 5 posters will be awarded at the conferences, the related papers being subject to the publication in an international Open Access Journal (EPJ-N).
  • R&D Topic Awards – for posters on the Conferences topics. 2 posters out of 20 selected posters will be awarded at the conferences (one in FISA 2019 and one in EURADWASTE’19), with the publication in an international Open Access Journal (EPJ-N) of the awarded related papers.
