Final Announcement - RD&D PLANDIS 2015

In the framework of the IGD-TP activity to network, structure and develop Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) programmes and competences in countries with less advanced geological disposal programmes, the IGD-TP is organising a workshop on PLANning RD&D on geological DISposal of radioactive waste in Europe – RD&D PLANDIS which aims to communicate and demonstrate a guidance document to support RD&D Planning for geological radioactive waste disposal. RD&D PLANDIS will be held on 26 May and will be hosted by the Institute for Nuclear Research Piteşti in Romania.

It is expected that participants to this workshop would:

  • Gain experience of ranking a list of potential RD&D tasks of direct relevance to their stage of geological disposal programme;
  • Meet other professionals working on RD&D prioritization in a disposal programme at a similar stage to their own;
  • Gain experience of completing the Guide template on RD&D prioritization to take away as useful input to own programme;
  • Interact with experienced RD&D planners in a more ‘informal’ setting to ask questions and provide feedback on Guide.

Audience The event will be of particular interest to decision makers, disposal programme owners and managers, Waste Management Organizations, Technical Support Organizations, representatives of civil society and experts knowledgeable in governance and involvement of civil society.

Registration and key dates There are no registration fees for attendance at this workshop. However, you do still need to register to book your place (subject to confirmation).

Travel information

PLANDIS is hosted by the Institute for Nuclear Research sited in Mioveni, Arges, Romania, a town located at 20 km North from Pitesti. The closest airport to Pitesti is Henri Coanda International Airport Otopeni –Bucharest.

Transfer to Pitesti from the airport

The Institute for Nuclear Research will made the necessary arrangements to ensure the transfer from the airport for all participants. However, due to the limited number of our cars, cooperation with the Ramada Hotel will be probably necessary.

Transfer provided by the institute is free of charge and will be preferentially offered to those arriving very late and to the participants in the Conference Nuclear 2015 on a first come, first serve basis.

If the institute transfer is fully booked, we can organize transfer provided by Ramada for those choosing to stay in this hotel is:

- 99 euro for a small car that can be shared by maximum 3 persons;

-149 euro for a mini-van that can be shared by maximum 10 persons.

Public transport is also available. The most convenient way is to combine taxi with train (a) or bus (b).

Travel by train:

The following sequence is advisable:

  • taxi from the airport to Bucharest, Gara de Nord (North Railway station) - 30 lei (7 euro) – around 30 minutes; taxi must be ordered in the arrival terminal using a freephone (kind of machine similar to an ATM) on the right after exiting the customs check. You can choose a taxi company, phone them and order a taxi. You will be told the waiting time and the reference number of the taxi. Then you go out and wait for the taxi to arrive. Recommended taxi companies are: Cristaxi and Cobalcescu.
  • train to Pitesti, Gara de Sud (South Railway station) – 36 lei (8 euro) – around 2 h; departure times of the trains to Pitesti are: 6:00; 7:25; 9:25;13:25;14:25; 15:28; 16:25; 17:25; 18:25; 19:30; 20:30; 21:25; 20:25 (the last one)
  • taxi to the hotel -10 lei (2.5 euro) – around 5-10 minutes; taxis can be found at the exit from the Railway station in the main street, at right. Recommended taxis: Actual or Pic.

Travel by bus:

The following sequence is advisable:

  • taxi from the airport to Bucharest, Autogara Militari (Militari Bus Station) - 40 lei (9 euro) – around 45 minutes
  • bus to Pitesti, Autogara Nord (North Bus Station) or Gara de Sud depending on the travel company – 22 lei (5 euro), around 1:45 h; bus departure is each 30 minutes.
  • taxi to the hotel – 10 lei (2.5 euro) – around 5-10 minutes

For public transport options cash is necessary.

Transfer to the Institute

Transfer by bus will be provided to all participants by the Institute for Nuclear Research. Departure time is foreseen at 8:30 am in front of Muntenia hotel (in the city centre) and 8:35 am at Ramada Hotel.

Return to the airport

Transfer to the airport can be also provided by the institute on May 26th with a prior announcement of the departure time.

Please note that travel time from the Institute to the airport is around 2-2:30 h and you should be in the airport at least 1h before departure.

Currency

The Romanian currency is Leu (plural lei) with an average currency rate

            1 euro = 4.42 lei  

To get cash, it is preferable to use the ATM machine in the Arrivals terminals near the left exit door.

Do not use Exchange Offices in the airport since the exchange rate in unfavorable.

Do not withdraw large amount of money; 100 lei cash is more than enough since payment with card is possible at hotels, and in many restaurants and shops.

There are also 2 ATM machines at the Institute.
